Three Micronesia-Based Purse Seine Operations Gain MSC Certification
Three companies conducting tuna purse-seine fishing in the Federated States of Micronesia have obtained Marine Stewardship Council certification.
Liancheng Overseas Fishery (Shenzhen) Co. Ltd (SZLC); Caroline Fisheries Corporation, Inc.; and DaYang Seafoods Ltd. – backed by the Federated States of Micronesia National Oceanic Resource Management Authority (NORMA) –completed a 12-month independent assessment by MSC assessment body Control Union Co. and obtained required scores to earn certification. Feds Approve American Samoa Marine Conservation Plan
In a press release issued by The Dept. of Marine and Wildlife Resources (DMWR), the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) announced the approval of a Marine Conservation Plan (MCP) for American Samoa, effective July 25, 2021 to July 24, 2024.
The MCP was developed by the Department of Marine and Wildlife Resources in consultation with Department of Port Administration, Department of Commerce, the Governor’s Office and the American Samoa Advisory Panel for the Western Pacific Fishery Management Council. The plan was presented, reviewed and concurred by the Western Pacific Fishery Management Council during its 168th virtual meeting held in June. Continue reading here(Source: Samoa News).
More Data on Pacific Tuna Needed to Counter Climate Impacts
Fisheries experts say more accurate and detailed knowledge of Pacific tuna stocks is needed to ensure the ongoing sustainability of the resource.

ISSF Expands Requirements for Longline Fishing Vessels by Strengthening Conservation Measures Covering Shark Finning and Fisher Outreach on Bycatch

Vietnam Tuna Exports Burst Back Onto US Market With 21% Growth
   
In June 2021 alone, exports to the main import markets all grew positively, except for Japan and Israel, which decreased by 0.8 and 9% respectively.
